NATIVEA Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOP
With its NATIVAE Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Tenuta Ulisse brings the authentic soul of Central Italy to the glass. Brothers Antonio and Luigi continue the legacy of their grandfather, who planted the first vines in the early 1900s. Today, they cultivate approximately 55 hectares, stretching from the hills around Crecchio and Lanciano inland to the coast of Ortona. This mosaic of diverse locations and microclimates gives the wine its deep, terroir-driven character.
The foundation for the wine's distinctive style is laid in the vineyard: the grapes are harvested by hand and transported in small ten-kilo crates. The targeted use of dry ice on the way to the winery ensures the grapes remain undamaged and cool before undergoing a second, rigorous selection at the sorting table.
On the nose, this red wine displays rich aromas of dark plum, ripe blackberries, and delicate licorice. On the palate, it presents itself as classically dry and earthy. The tannins are gently integrated and support the body before the wine transitions into a long finish with subtle hints of black pepper and a touch of oak.
Serve this Montepulciano at a drinking temperature of 16 to 18 °C . It is an excellent accompaniment to hearty braised dishes, a classic wild boar ragout with pappardelle, or aged Pecorino cheese.
