Markus Schneider Merlot Mon Église

Markus Schneider Merlot Mon Église
Merlot from the Palatinate — that sounds more unusual than it actually is. Markus Schneider, the career changer from Ellerstadt who once worked as a car mechanic and taught himself the craft of winemaking, has made a name for himself in the Palatinate for powerful, accessible red wines. His Merlot follows this line: a wine that doesn't take any long detours.
On the nose, it shows ripe blackberry and plum, underpinned by a hint of cocoa and dark chocolate — typical for a well-matured Merlot from a warm growing region like the Palatinate. Soft and round on the palate, with velvety tannins and a pleasant length. The finish remains spicy, with a slight hint of cedar wood.
Served at 16–18 °C, it shows to its best advantage. Ready to drink now, but also good for the next two to three years. It cuts a fine figure with a beef pot roast, pasta with ragù, or a strong hard cheese — an uncomplicated companion for the evening that doesn't need to look long for an occasion.
