Lergenmüller Red Clay Merlot dry

A Merlot that shows what heavy clay soils in the Palatinate can achieve: dense, calm, with a ripe fruit that does not descend into opulence.

The Lergenmüller winery is located in Hainfeld on the Southern Wine Route – one of the warmest and sunniest regions in Germany. The Mediterranean climate ensures even ripening, while the heavy red clay soils limit the yield and concentrate the aromas in the heart of the grape. It's no coincidence that the wine's name refers directly to the soil.

In the glass: ripe dark cherry, a hint of plum, subtle spice in the background. The body is firm without being harsh – the tannins are well-developed and support the long, dry finish. Not a loud, extracted southern Merlot, but an earthy red wine with a clear character.

Lergenmüller

The German winery, headquartered in the Palatinate region, was founded in 1538 and is currently managed by Jürgen and Stefan Lergenmüller. With 195 hectares under vine, it is one of the largest wineries in the Palatinate and produces up to 850,000 bottles of wine annually. The vines are cultivated at four different locations on soils of limestone, loess, and variegated sandstone, providing them with ample minerals. Controlled irrigation and the abundant sunshine in the Palatinate contribute to optimal growth. Lergenmüller's portfolio includes white wines made from grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc, as well as red wines from varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot, and others.
