Lergenmüller Red Clay Merlot dry

A Merlot that shows what heavy clay soils in the Palatinate can achieve: dense, calm, with a ripe fruit that does not slide into opulence.

The Lergenmüller winery is located in Hainfeld on the Southern Wine Route – one of the warmest and sunniest regions in Germany. The Mediterranean climate ensures even ripening, the heavy red clay soils slow down the yield and concentrate the aromas in the core of the berry. It is no coincidence that the name of the wine refers directly to the soil.

In the glass: ripe dark cherry, a hint of plum, subtle spice in the background. The body is firm without appearing coarse – the tannin structure is mature and supports the finish, which fades long and dry. Not a loud, extracted Southern Merlot, but an grounded red wine with a clear line.

Lergenmüller

The German winery with its headquarters in the Palatinate was founded in 1538 and is today managed under the leadership of Jürgen and Stefan Lergenmüller. With an area of 85 ha, it is one of the largest wineries in the Palatinate and produces up to 850,000 bottles of wine annually. At a total of four locations, the vines are supplied with sufficient minerals on soils made of limestone, loess and variegated sandstone. Controlled water supply and the many hours of sunshine in the Palatinate contribute to optimal growth. Lergenmüller's range includes white wines from grape varieties such as Chardonnay or Pinot Blanc and red wines from the Pinot Noir, Merlot and other varieties.
