The Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique is a single malt from Taiwan that makes wine wood the pace-setter. It is bottled at cask strength (50–60% vol, depending on the cask) and is intense without losing precision.

Kavalan distills in the subtropical climate of Taiwan. For the Solist Vinho Barrique, red and white wine casks are scraped and toasted in a controlled manner after use before the whisky is filled in. The character of this bottling comes from the freshly activated wood.

On the nose, vanilla and caramelized sugar meet dark chocolate. These are joined by ripe melon, mango, and kiwi, citrus accents, and a hint of pepper. On the palate, the profile remains clear and fruity, carried by warm barrel structure and a long finish.

Best enjoyed neat in a tulip glass. With a little air, the fruit opens up; a few drops of water soften the cask strength. For those looking for fruit, chocolate, and wine wood as a triad.
