The Kavalan Single Malt is a Taiwanese whisky with tropical fruit character, bottled at 40% ABV. It shows how independent a single malt from Asia can taste.

The Kavalan Distillery is located in Yilan in northeastern Taiwan. The subtropical climate shapes the maturation of the distillates and gives the whisky its own style. The distillery is considered a flagship of the young Taiwanese whisky culture.

In the glass, warm amber. In the nose, honey, mango, and pear, plus vanilla, coconut, and a hint of mild chocolate. On the palate, ripe mango is the focus, accompanied by delicate orange and the structure of the oak cask maturation. The texture is silky, the finish long and fruity.

Recommendation: neat at room temperature or with an ice cube so that the fruit notes remain open. Also as a base for a highball with soda and an orange zest.
