Kavalan Lan Whisky

Kavalan LÁN is a Taiwanese single malt that combines three different cask types into one vatting – complexity through contrast rather than time alone.

Behind Kavalan is the King Car Group from Yilan in northeastern Taiwan. The tropical climate there – heat, humidity, and strong temperature fluctuations – significantly accelerates cask maturation: what Scottish distillates develop over a decade, Kavalan achieves here in just a few years. Since winning a blind tasting in 2010, Kavalan has been considered one of Asia's most important whisky producers. The name LÁN refers to Yilan, the region of origin, and to the Chinese word for orchid – King Car also operates an orchid nursery alongside the distillery, and the variety depicted on the label is their own King Car Honey Peach.

In the glass, LÁN displays ripe tropical fruit – mango, pineapple, passion fruit – complemented by honey and a floral element. The texture is soft and rounded, the finish warm with a light wood spice.

Drink neat at room temperature or with a single ice cube if you want to open up the fruit aromas a little.
