On the Dornoch Firth in the Scottish Highlands stands one of the most distinctive distilleries in the country: Glenmorangie, founded in 1843, known for a style that clearly stands out from many other single malts. The reason for this can literally be seen: the stills in Tain are among the tallest in all of Scotland. The longer the steam rises, the more heavy aromas are left behind – which results in an unusual lightness and fruitiness in the glass.

The result is distillates that do without peat and yet have character: ripe pear, vanilla, a fine honey note. Glenmorangie recognized early on that the cask tells at least as much as the distillation itself. In addition to bottlings classically matured in American white oak, there are finishes in Calvados casks, Tokaji casks, and other unusual types of wood – each one an individual interpretation of the same elegant basic character.
