Fettercairn is one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland. Since 1824, single malt has been produced in the eastern Highlands, at the foot of the Grampian Mountains, using a technique that remains unique to this day: During distillation, ice-cold mountain water is passed over the copper stills. This deliberate drop in temperature alters the reflux in the stills and shapes the character of the distillates in a way that no other distillery replicates.

The result is a range of whiskies that clearly deviate from the classic Highland profile: tropical fruit, ripe mango, a hint of pineapple – all underpinned by a soft, approachable structure. The 12-year-old is a reliable entry point into this style, aromatically open and without the heaviness of some mature malts. The Vanguard Series demonstrates where the distillery can go with more time and special cask types: more complex, richer, with dried fruit notes and a longer finish.
