Highland Whisky with history. No other distillery is allowed to use the water from Lochan an Doire Uaine: pure snowmelt and rainwater high in the Drumochter Hills. This gives this Scotch its unique balance – malt-sweet, clean, with a soft, smoky warmth. Chilled, it unfolds its full honey sweetness.
Founded in 1897 as Strathspey, the distillery was soon called Dalwhinnie – "Plain of Meetings" in Gaelic, at the intersection of old roads between two mountain ranges. A beautiful, but also harsh location: a fire in 1934, four years of closure, reconstruction during bitterly cold winters and snowdrifts.

Dalwhinnie is located at around 355 meters in the Drumochter Hills – one of the highest distilleries in Scotland and one of the coldest. Founded in 1897 under the name Strathspey, it now bears the Gaelic name of the location: "Plain of Meetings," a crossroads of old drovers' roads between two mountain ranges. This seclusion is no coincidence, but a prerequisite: the water comes exclusively from Lochan an Doire Uaine, fed by snowmelt and rainwater – a water right that no other distillery possesses.
The history of Dalwhinnie is also a history of resistance against nature. A fire shut down the facility for four years in 1934; snowdrifts are part of everyday life. What remains is a whisky that does not show this harshness, but translates it into gentleness: malt-sweet, clean on the finish, with a soft, slightly smoky warmth that only unfolds on the finish. Chilled, the honey sweetness emerges more clearly – a classic serving tip for this style.
