The Kavalan Solist Port Cask is a Taiwanese single malt that matures exclusively in first-fill port wine casks and is bottled at cask strength. The strength lies between 50 and 61% vol depending on the cask; the bottling is not chill-filtered.

Kavalan distills in Yilan in northeastern Taiwan. The Solist is the house's single-cask line: every bottle comes from a single cask, which is why strength and nuances differ from bottling to bottling.

On the nose, powerful wood aromas meet spices and an elegant sweetness. On the palate, dried fruits and raisins are in the foreground, accompanied by the warm pressure of the cask. The aftertaste is long and fruity. The port wine brings in dark fruit and sweetness without masking the wood structure.

Drink it neat first and then add a few drops of water so that the profile opens up. A whisky for a quiet evening and for anyone who appreciates port casks and cask strength.
