Groviglio Valtènesi Riviera del Garda Classico

A rosé wine that shows what the hilly landscapes between Lake Garda and Brescia can do: fresh, spicy, with real character.

Cà Maiol is one of the defining wineries of the Valtenesi – that moraine hill landscape southwest of Lake Garda, known for its native grape varieties. The winery has consistently specialized in this region and works primarily with autochthonous varieties that are hard to find elsewhere.

The Groviglio combines four of them: 60 % Groppello as the backbone, supplemented by Marzemino, Barbera, and Sangiovese (15 % and 10 % respectively). Groppello brings the typical herbal spice and a fine bitter almond note in the finish, Marzemino contributes dark berry fruit – blackberry, blueberry –, Barbera provides lively acidity, Sangiovese provides structure. In the glass, this results in a light cherry pink, on the nose wild rose, pomegranate, and a hint of dried herbs.

On the palate, lightweight but not flat: crisp acidity, little tannin, dry finish with a subtle spicy note. Serving temperature 10–12 °C.

Pairs with grilled lake fish (char, trout), light pasta dishes with tomato sauce, or as an aperitif with charcuterie.

Cà Maiol

Cà Maiol is an Italian winery founded in 1967 by Walter Contato. The family business is now run by the second generation, Fabio and Patrizia Contato. Located at the southern end of Lake Garda, the winery owns approximately 140 hectares of vineyards with calcareous clay soils. Thanks to its proximity to Lake Garda, the region also enjoys a very mild climate. Among the grape varieties cultivated are Trbbiano di Lugano, Marzemino, Gropello, and Sangiovese.
