Groviglio Valtènesi Riviera del Garda Classico

A rosé wine that shows what the hillside vineyards between Lake Garda and Brescia can do: fresh, spicy, with real character.

Cà Maiol is one of the leading wineries of the Valtenesi – the morainic hilly landscape southwest of Lake Garda, known for its indigenous grape varieties. The winery has consistently specialized in this region and works primarily with native varieties that are rarely found elsewhere.

The Groviglio combines four of these grape varieties: 60% Groppello as its backbone, complemented by Marzemino, Barbera, and Sangiovese (15% and 10% respectively). Groppello contributes the typical herbal spiciness and a delicate bitter almond note on the finish, Marzemino adds dark berry fruit – blackberry, blueberry – Barbera provides lively acidity, and Sangiovese adds structure. In the glass, this results in a light cherry-pink color, while the nose offers aromas of wild rose, pomegranate, and a hint of dried herbs.

Light on the palate, but not flat: crisp acidity, low tannins, dry finish with a subtle hint of spice. Serving temperature 10–12 °C.

Pairs well with grilled saltwater fish (char, trout), light pasta dishes with tomato sauce, or as an aperitif with charcuterie. Drinking window: now until 2026.

Cà Maiol

Cà Maiol is an Italian winery founded in 1967 by Walter Contato. The family business is now run by the second generation, Fabio and Patrizia Contato. Located at the southern end of Lake Garda, the winery owns approximately 140 hectares of vineyards with calcareous clay soils. Thanks to its proximity to Lake Garda, the region also enjoys a very mild climate. Among the grape varieties cultivated are Trbbiano di Lugano, Marzemino, Gropello, and Sangiovese.
