Goldberg Riesling GG

The Goldberg is one of the great steep slopes on the Saar – and Van Volxem gets out of it what the slate has to offer: a dry Riesling with power, depth and a long finish.

Since 2000, Roman Niewodniczanski has consistently focused Van Volxem on quality. The winery cultivates historic Saar vineyards, including the Goldberg near Wiltingen, using organic methods. The grapes are selectively harvested by hand, and the wine matures in large wooden barrels – not new wood that masks the origin, but rather a maturation process that allows the terroir to speak for itself.

In the glass, the Goldberg GG demonstrates what top-level Saar Riesling means: ripe yellow plum, citrus peel, and a distinct slate note that feels like freshly broken stone. The acidity is present but integrated – no harshness, but rather a taut, mineral line that carries the wine from start to finish. Medium to full body, silky mouthfeel, very long finish with a saline aftertaste.
