Wiltingen SCHARZHOFBERGER Riesling "Pergentknopp" VDP. Grosse Lage®

Wiltingen SCHARZHOFBERGER Riesling "Pergentknopp" VDP. Grosse Lage®
A Riesling that clearly expresses the unique character of the Scharzhofberg vineyard: mineral, profound, with a tension that runs through every sip.
Van Volxem is one of the most influential wineries on the Saar. Roman Niewodniczanski took over the estate in 2000 and has consistently developed it into one of Germany's leading Riesling producers. The Scharzhofberg vineyard in Wiltingen is one of the most famous single vineyards in the world—deeply rooted slate soil, cool Saar climate, and extreme steepness. The Pergentknopp designates a specific parcel within this Grand Cru vineyard, which Van Volxem vinifies as a separate selection.
In the glass, a delicately juicy, vibrant Riesling with a clear structure unfolds. Aromas of yellow stone fruit, a hint of quince, and a cool vein of slate. On the palate, it is firm yet refined—the acidity provides support without being sharp. A subtle extract sweetness balances it without overpowering the freshness. The finish is long, saline, and mineral—typical of the Saar.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Drinking window: 2025–2034.
Goes well with grilled char with herb butter, scallops with lemon foam or a mature mountain cheese.
