Van Volxem VV Slate Riesling dry

Van Volxem VV Slate Riesling dry
Mineral, precise, with the characteristic slate spice of the Saar: The VV Schiefer Riesling from Van Volxem shows why this region is one of the most exciting Riesling destinations in Germany.
Roman Niewodniczanski took over the Van Volxem winery in 1999 and has consistently developed it into one of the leading Saar estates. The wines grow on the typical weathered soils of the Saar region—blue-gray slate that warms the vines during the day and cools them at night. This thermal effect shapes the acidity and mineral depth that characterize Van Volxem Rieslings.
In the glass, the VV Schiefer displays bright citrus and yellow fruit notes—ripe apple, mirabelle plum—with a distinct slate undertone reminiscent of wet stone. The acidity is lively yet integrated, the finish dry and saline. Rated 91 points (Falstaff, 2014 vintage) .
