Van Volxem Riesling Old vines dry

Perfectly ripe small berries from up to 120-year-old vines, immensely gentle pressing over 7 hours, up to 2 days of skin contact, multi-week spontaneous fermentation by natural wild yeasts in used wooden vats, long maturation on the fine lees. The all-pervading, almost salty-seeming minerality creates a tension in this valuable wine between profound concentration and challenging freshness.

Van Volxem's Riesling Alte Reben convinces with its all-pervading, almost salty-seeming minerality and creates a tension between profound concentration and challenging freshness.

The Van Volxem winery is located in Wiltingen on the Saar, south of the city of Trier. The history of the winery dates back to the 3rd century and it has been owned by Roman Niewodniczanski since 2000. The winery has a total vineyard area of 42 hectares, which is divided into nine sites.

Among the best sites are Wiltinger Gottesfuß, Scharzhofberger, and Bockstein. The soils consist mainly of Devonian slate. 96% Riesling grapes and four percent Pinot Blanc grapes are grown for the production of Van Volxem wines. Approximately 280,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
