Van Volxem Riesling Old vines dry
Perfectly ripened small berries from vines up to 120 years old, exceptionally gentle pressing over 7 hours, up to 2 days of maceration, several weeks of spontaneous fermentation by natural wild yeasts in used wooden casks, and extended aging on the fine lees. The pervasive, almost saline minerality creates a tension in this exceptional wine between profound concentration and invigorating freshness. Van Volxem's Riesling Alte Reben impresses with its pervasive, almost saline minerality and creates a tension between profound concentration and invigorating freshness. The Van Volxem winery is located in Wiltingen on the Saar River, south of Trier. Founded in 1700, it has been owned by Roman Niewodniczanski since 1999. The winery has a total vineyard area of 42 hectares, divided among nine different sites. The best sites include Wiltinger Gottesfuß, Kupp, Braunfels, and Scharzhofberger. The soils consist primarily of Devonian slate. Van Volxem wines are produced from 96% Riesling grapes and 4% Pinot Blanc grapes. Approximately 280,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
