Yarden Merlot

A structured Merlot from one of the most surprising wine regions in the world: the Golan Heights, where volcanic basalt soil and cool high altitudes at 400–1200 meters ensure unusual freshness in an actually warm climate.

The Golan Heights Winery has been considered a pioneer for modern Israeli quality wine since its founding in 1983. Under the Yarden brand — named after the Jordan River — the winery vinifies grapes from its own vineyards on the heights of the Golan. All wines are kosher (Kosher Lamehadrin, Kosher for Passover, certified by Rabbi Avraham D. Oyerbach, Tiberias).

In the glass, the Merlot shows dark plum and ripe black cherry, plus a hint of orange zest and Mediterranean herbs. The body is full-bodied and round, the tannins soft enough for early enjoyment, but with sufficient structure for two to four years of storage. Finish medium-long, slightly spicy.

Golan Heights Winery

Golan Heights Winery – vineyards north of the Sea of Galilee, at altitudes between 400 and 1,100 meters. Volcanic soils, a cool climate – ideal conditions for wine. In 1983, four kibbutzim and moshavim joined forces and founded the winery in Katzrin. In 1992, winemaker Victor Schoenfeld joined, bringing experience from France and America. His influence contributed significantly to its success. The award-winning Yarden line is adorned with a mosaic-decorated oil lamp. "Yarden" – the Hebrew word for Jordan. A wine region that surprises and delights.
