Vite Colte La Luna and I Falo Barbera d'Asti
Vite Colte La Luna e I Falò – Barbera d'Asti
A red wine for those who truly want to understand Piedmont: full-bodied, characterful, and with a depth not always expected from a Barbera. La Luna e I Falò from Vite Colte is an honest wine with character – created on calcareous and clay soils formed in the Miocene epoch around 15 million years ago. These so-called "white soils" of Piedmont, with their extremely low yields, produce grapes of remarkable concentration.
The vinification follows the estate's tradition: a 15-day maceration on the skins , controlled fermentation at 28 to 30 °C, and subsequent malolactic fermentation, which gently rounds out the natural acidity of the Barbera. The wine then matures for 15 months in small oak barrels before resting for a further six to eight months in the bottle – time it needs to achieve its full aromatic balance.
In the glass , La Luna e I Falò displays a deep, vibrant red color. The nose opens with ripe dark cherries, a hint of plum, and subtle spice notes from the oak aging. On the palate, it is full-bodied, structured, and boasts pleasantly soft tannins – the typical freshness of Barbera remains noticeably present.
Especially recommended for:
- Braised beef and game dishes
- Ripe Pecorino or Grana Padano
- Pasta al ragù and hearty risottos
Gambero Rosso awarded the 2021 vintage three glasses – the highest accolade from the renowned Italian wine guide. A wine that more than justifies its price.
