Villa Maria Icon Celtic Single Vineyard
Villa Maria Icon Celtic Single Vineyard
A Chardonnay that shows what New Zealand can do in white wine: complex, densely woven, with a depth more commonly found in Burgundy.
Villa Maria is one of New Zealand's most prestigious wineries. Founded in Auckland in 1961, it has established itself over decades as one of the most important ambassadors of New Zealand wine culture. The Kelten Single Vineyard is part of the Icon line—the estate's highest quality level, reserved for wines from single vineyards with exceptional expressive potential.
In the glass, a clear straw yellow with green reflections. The nose opens with white nectarine and a smoky, almost mineral hint—gun smoke meets a delicate brioche toast note, presumably from the oak barrel aging. On the palate, dense and smooth, with well-integrated acidity and a long, spicy finish.
Serving suggestion: Serve between 10 and 12 °C. Pairs well with lobster bisque, grilled cod with butter sauce, or a mature Brie de Meaux. Also excellent on its own in the evening.
