Villa Maria Private Bin Chardonnay

Villa Maria Private Bin Chardonnay
Villa Maria's Private Bin Chardonnay demonstrates what New Zealand's east coast is capable of: a clear fruitiness that gains depth through subtle use of oak – without oak for oak's sake.
Villa Maria is one of New Zealand's most renowned wineries, founded in Auckland in 1961 by Sir George Fistonich. Private Bin is the brand's entry-level label, but it represents a precise style: for this cuvée, grapes from various terroirs along New Zealand's east coast – including Gisborne and Hawke's Bay – are blended to create a balanced white wine.
In the glass, it displays ripe peach notes, fig, and a fresh citrus character. The oak notes are softly integrated and not overpowering – a sign of controlled barrel aging that supports the fruit rather than overpowering it. Medium-bodied, moderate acidity, pleasantly rounded finish.
- Food pairings: Pan-fried cod, pasta with cream sauce, grilled chicken or a mature Brie
- Temperature: 10–12 °C
- Occasion: An uncomplicated everyday wine that also works for a relaxed dinner with friends.
