Velenosi Prope Montepulciano d´Abruzzo DOC

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from Controguerra — this is central Italy in its most straightforward, characterful form. The Prope from Velenosi shows what this grape variety is capable of when given time.

Velenosi is a family-run winery from the Marche region, with roots in Ascoli Piceno, that has consistently focused on the quality potential of central Italy since the 1980s. The grapes for their Prope grow in Controguerra at an altitude of over 250 meters—a location where cooler nights and intense sunshine ensure a natural acid structure. After fermentation, the wine matures for twelve months in large wooden barrels.

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red. The nose offers sour cherry and ripe blackberry, along with coffee powder, tobacco, and a hint of licorice. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with soft, well-integrated tannins and a long, slightly spicy finish.

Serving suggestion: Serve at 16–18 °C. It pairs well with leg of lamb with rosemary, pasta all'Amatriciana, or aged Pecorino cheese. It's also a good accompaniment to autumnal braised dishes.
