Ludi Offida Rosso DOCG Magnum
Ludi — Latin for "games" — is not a main crop that has to prove a style, but the freedom that Velenosi has consciously left itself. The result is a red wine with real substance.
The Velenosi winery is located in Ascoli Piceno in the Marche, a region that receives less international attention than Tuscany, but with the Offida DOCG, it represents one of the strictly regulated red wine appellations of Central Italy. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo relative Piceno, Adriatic climate, clay-rich soils — this shapes the style: powerful, but not heavy.
On the nose, the Ludi shows dark, fleshy fruit — blackberry, black plum — with licorice and a mineral hint of graphite in the background. On the palate, soft, well-integrated tannins, a supporting acidity, and a long, spicy finish. The magnum bottle slows down the maturation additionally — the wine has time to unfold.
Recommendation: With lamb shank with rosemary, grilled beef steak, or a mature Pecorino delle Marche. Serving temperature 16–18 °C. The magnum is well suited for a larger table — or as a gift with a guarantee of maturity.
