Rêve Pecorino Offida DOCG
Pecorino from the Marche region – a grape variety long forgotten, now considered one of the most exciting white wines of central Italy. The Rêve from Velenosi demonstrates what the Offida DOCG can achieve with this variety.
Velenosi is one of the most trusted names in the brand: The winery in Ascoli Piceno has been working for decades to position regional grape varieties such as Pecorino and Passerina. The Rêve is the more elaborate of the two styles – 50% of the grapes are fermented in new French summer oak barriques and then aged on the lees for around six months. The remainder is presumably aged in stainless steel to preserve its aromatic freshness.
In the glass: white blossoms, ripe yellow apple, and a distinct vanilla note from the oak aging. These are complemented by balsamic notes – a characteristic of well-ripened Pecorino grapes from higher altitudes. The palate displays volume and lively acidity, which keeps the wine fresh despite the oak. A medium-long, slightly spicy finish.
