Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett, fruity and sweet
ÜRZIGER WÜRZGARTEN Bright red and incredibly steep, the Ürziger Würzgarten vineyard forms a unique amphitheater of red sandstone on the Moselle. Although located directly upstream from the Erden vineyards, the Ürziger Würzgarten produces a completely different kind of great Riesling, full of exotic, spicy aromas and great depth. In some years, anise and even a hint of Gewürztraminer can be found. The weathered red volcanic and slate soil of the Ürziger Würzgarten makes it so unique on the Moselle. High iron concentrations in the soil give the vineyard its vibrant color. With very harmonious acidity and a peppery, slightly sweet nose, the Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett is a brilliantly refreshing blend of limestone and green apple with a touch of sweet spices.

The German winery is located in the Palatinate region and is managed by Dr. Ernst F. Loosen. Its 22 hectares of vineyards are divided among six different sites, including the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, the Erdener Treppchen, and the Graacher Himmelreich. The slate soils act as excellent heat reservoirs for cool nights, and the Moselle River reflects sunlight onto the steep slopes where the grapes ripen. The winery cultivates and uses almost exclusively Riesling grapes for its production. Only 2% of the wines are made from Pinot Noir varieties, with occasional use of Cabernet Sauvignon or Dornfelder. The family-run business produces up to 180,000 bottles of wine annually.
