After the Masseria Maime from Tormaresca received the highest award of 3 glasses 9 times in a row, the Torcicoda Primitivo now joins this highest award. The Tormaresca Torcicoda Primitivo IGT Salento enchants with varietal aromas of sour cherries and plums, combined with fine notes of leather and tobacco. Soft tannin and a lasting finish round off the taste experience of this "high-flyer" aged for 12 months in barrels and 10 months in the bottle.

How does the Torcicoda Primitivo taste?
Varietally fruity with sour cherry and damson, plus fine notes of leather and tobacco. The tannin is soft, the finish long and harmonious—not a bulky wine despite the barrel aging.
What does this Primitivo pair best with?
Hearty meat dishes like lamb, game, goose, or veal, but also braised dishes, ragout, and salsiccia. Pecorino and mushroom dishes work just as well.
At what temperature should it be served?
Best at 20°C, normal room temperature. If served too warm, the alcohol (14.5% vol) feels more present; if too cold, the fruit aromas recede.
How is the Torcicoda aged?
12 months in wooden barrels, followed by another 10 months of aging in the bottle. This combination provides the tobacco and leather notes alongside the sour cherry fruit.
Is the wine dry?
Yes, the Torcicoda is dry, with soft tannin and juicy fruit instead of noticeable sweetness.
How long does the wine keep once the bottle is opened?
Well-sealed and stored in a cool place, an opened bottle will keep for about 3 to 4 days before the fruit noticeably fades.
The Winery
The winery Tormaresca was founded in 1998 by the Antinori family and is located in the Italian region of Apulia, near the town of San Pietro Vernotico.
Tormaresca has 2 vineyard sites (Tenuta Bocca di Lupo and Masseria Maime), which make up a total area of 348 hectares. The region is characterized by plenty of sunshine and strong fluctuations between day and night temperatures.
In addition to the vineyards, the winery also has olive groves and grain fields. The cultivated areas are characterized by tuff soils, on which red and white grape varieties are grown. These include Negroamaro, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Aglianico. Three million bottles of wine are produced here annually.
