Buio Rosso Carignano del Sulcis DOC

The Buio Rosso Carignano del Sulcis DOC from Mesa is a single-varietal red wine from the southwestern corner of Sardinia – a region where the Carignano grape has been deeply rooted for centuries and bears perhaps its most expressive fruit on barren, windswept soils.

In the glass, it displays a deep, sparkling ruby red hue. The nose opens with smoky, slightly mineral notes that mingle with aromas of ripe red fruits and dark plums – complex, but never overpowering. On the palate, it is juicy and structured, with a long, pleasantly spicy finish.

When and what does it go best with? This wine pairs perfectly with:

  • Grilled lamb or game dishes
  • Strongly spiced pasta sauces and ragù
  • Mature hard cheeses such as Pecorino Sardo
  • A relaxed evening that calls for more depth

Buio Rosso is an honest, characterful wine – Sardinian through and through. When you open a glass, you're also drinking a piece of the island.

Mesa

The Italian winery Mesa was founded in 2004 on Sardinia. The young company is located in the Carbonia-Iglesias region, whose terroir is characterized by sandy soils. The given soil conditions enable the cultivation and later the production of high-quality wines. Various grape varieties such as Cannonau, Carigano or Carignan as well as Vermentino are grown on the vineyards of the Mesa winery and processed into wines in the cellar.
