St Aubin 1er Cru Sur Gamay

St. Aubin is the quiet insider tip village of the Côte de Beaune — Premier Cru quality at a fraction of the Puligny prices. The Sur Gamay site is located on calcareous clay-limestone soil at an altitude of around 300 meters and provides Chardonnay with clear minerality and lively acidity.

Domaine Bertrand Bachelet cultivates its plots in St. Aubin with the precision one expects more in Meursault or Chassagne-Montrachet. Careful hand-picking, gentle pressing, and aging in wooden barrels — classically Burgundian, without gimmickry.

In the glass, the 2023 shows ripe yellow pear and white peach, underscored by distinct limestone minerality and a hint of toasted hazelnut from the barrel aging. The palate is tautly structured, the acidity present but integrated, the finish long and salty. Not a heavy, buttery Burgundy — but a precise, tension-filled white wine with real aging potential.
