Maranges La Fussiere 1er Cru

Maranges lies in the far south of the Côte de Beaune – the last stretch of the Grand Cru line before classic Burgundy transitions into the Côte Chalonnaise. Lower prices than in Pommard or Volnay, but the same terroir potential: that is the premise of this appellation.

Domaine Bertrand Bachelet cultivates La Fussière, one of the best vineyards in the village. The limestone-marl soil lies on a gentle southeast exposure and gives the Pinot Noir the necessary freshness to maintain structure despite Burgundian warmth.

In the glass, aromas of sour cherry and raspberry appear, underpinned by a hint of dried violets and fine cedarwood from barrel aging. The acidity is precise, the tannins silky without appearing soft – typical for a Premier Cru with real aging potential. The finish is long, with a subtle mineral note reminiscent of fresh limestone.

2026–2034. Open now, but with two hours in a carafe. Serving temperature 16–17 °C. Pairs with duck breast with cherry wine reduction, veal cheeks, or an aged Époisses.
