Sauvignon Blanc Fumé

Sauvignon Blanc Fumé
The Sauvignon Blanc Fumé from the Schloss Ortenberg winery shows what the 2023 vintage can achieve in Baden: a warm summer that brings depth and ripeness, followed by cool autumn weeks that ensure freshness and structure.
Schloss Ortenberg is located in the Kinzig Valley on the edge of the Black Forest – one of the most idiosyncratic sites in Baden, where continental coolness and Baden warmth meet. The name Fumé refers to the smoky, mineral component that Sauvignon Blanc develops on certain soils.
In the glass, it shows aromas of mirabelle, ripe gooseberry, and dried apricot – fully ripe, but not heavy. Subtle smoke notes and a hint of vanilla lie underneath as a second layer. The finish is supple with good length.
Drinking recommendation: Served well at 10–12 °C. Pairs with grilled zander, goat cheese tart, or asparagus with hollandaise sauce. Also drinkable as an uncomplicated summer evening wine without food.
