St. Andreas Chardonnay Schlossberg GG QW Großes Gewächs 0.75L

A Chardonnay that shows what the Ortenau region can do: mineral, precise, with real depth. The Schlossberg is one of the best sites in the region — and the St. Andreas makes this claim palpable in the glass.

The Schloss Ortenberg winery is located above Offenburg, nestled between the Black Forest and the Rhine plain. The vines of the Schlossberg stand on barren granite soil at a high altitude — a terroir that steers Chardonnay in a different direction than the great Burgundian models: cooler, tighter, with a clear mineral line. The cool Black Forest climate ensures long ripening periods and a distinct acid structure.

In the glass, the wine shows ripe yellow pear, white peach, and a hint of brioche. The texture is dense but without heaviness — the acidity carries the wine through the long, salty-mineral finish. Not a wine that pushes itself forward, but one that opens up over time.

Best served at 10–12 °C. Pairs with zander fillet on beurre blanc, grilled lobster, or an aged mountain cheese from the Allgäu.
