St. Andreas Andreasberg Spätburgunder Erstes Gewächs

A Spätburgunder from old vines that shows what Pinot Noir can do in the Ortenau with dark fruit and fine acidity. The Andreasberg site belongs to the Schloss Ortenberg winery alone (monopole site) and has been cultivated by it since the 15th century.

The vineyard is located directly above the winery, facing south-west and surrounded by the Black Forest. The vines root in granite weathering soils. Hence the structure: on the nose dark cherries and berries, sweet Amarena cherry, plus smoke, mocha and a hint of juniper. Juicy and full on the palate, carried by fine-nerved acidity and elegant tannins. The wine tastes dry and appears filigree instead of powerful.

Recommendation: Serve it at about 16 to 18 °C. It pairs with duck breast, saddle of venison, braised veal cheeks or mature mountain cheese.
