Roederer Cristal Brut in GP Champagne Louis Roederer 1.5L

The Cristal from Louis Roederer is not a Champagne that explains itself — it reveals itself. The magnum bottle (1.5 liters) enhances the maturation on the lees, giving the cuvée more time and depth.

Louis Roederer is one of the few large houses in Champagne that sources a large part of its grapes from its own vineyards. The Cristal was originally created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II — since then, it has been one of the most famous prestige cuvées of all. The base is predominantly Chardonnay, supplemented by Pinot Noir, from selected Grand Cru sites in Champagne.

In the glass, it glows golden yellow with a warm shimmer, the perlage is fine and persistent. On the nose, candied lemon, white flowers, pollen, and a hint of ripe pear. On the palate, creamy texture, precise acidity, long finish with a mineral note and a touch of brioche. Brut dosage, which keeps the wine taut without slimming it down.

Best served at 8–10 °C — with lobster, scallops, or a mature Brie de Meaux. The magnum is suitable for special occasions where a single bottle would simply be too little.

Champagne Louis Roederer

Since the founding of the house in 1776 in Reims, the Louis Roederer winery has been in the possession of the same family. It is now one of the most important independent family businesses in Champagne. Frederic Rouzaud, a direct descendant of Louis Roederer, is the current Directeur Général.

His goal is to invent the champagne of tomorrow so that Louis Roederer will still be a reference in 20 years. The terroir extends over a total area of 240 hectares exclusively in Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites along the Marne river. Since 2001, a gradual conversion of the majority to biodynamic cultivation has been taking place, which is expected to be completed in 2020.
