Roederer Brut Nature Vintage Champagne Louis Roederer

No residual sugar, no compromise: The Brut Nature from Louis Roederer is a Champagne for people who prefer sharpness and clarity over comfort. Without any dosage, the Chardonnay shows what the site can do — and what does not need to be masked by sugar.

Louis Roederer is one of the few great Champagne houses that is still entirely family-owned. Based in Reims since 1776, the house now manages over 240 hectares of its own vineyards — a rarity in Champagne, where most houses rely on grapes from growers. The Brut Nature is released as a vintage Champagne and therefore carries the character of a single harvest year.

In the glass, it is light yellow, radiant, with a fine and even perlage. The lack of dosage is immediately apparent: the texture is leaner than a classic Brut, the acidity is in the foreground. Aromas of mirabelle plum and yellow apple, with a hint of white flowers and a mineral undertone underneath. The finish is dry, long, and clear — no lingering sweetness, but salt and citrus peel instead.

Best served at 8–10 °C. Pairs with oysters, scallops with lemon butter, or salmon tartare. If drinking it as an aperitif, you should opt for snacks with their own distinct flavor — salted crackers, raw ham, aged Parmesan.

The Champagne House

Champagne Louis Roederer

Since the founding of the house in 1776 in Reims, the Louis Roederer winery has been in the possession of the same family. It is now one of the most important independent family businesses in Champagne. Frederic Rouzaud, a direct descendant of Louis Roederer, is the current Directeur Général.

His goal is to invent the champagne of tomorrow so that Louis Roederer will still be a reference in 20 years. The terroir extends over a total area of 240 hectares exclusively in Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites along the Marne river. Since 2001, a gradual conversion of the majority to biodynamic cultivation has been taking place, which is expected to be completed in 2020.
