Rings Kallstadt Saumagen Riesling GG

The Saumagen is the most famous site in Kallstadt – and Rings is one of the wineries that consistently exploits its potential. This Riesling bears the GG seal of the VDP: dry, site-specific, without compromise.

The brothers Andreas and Steffen Rings manage their Palatinate sites with a clear focus on expression of origin. The Saumagen is located on calcareous marl soils, which give the Riesling its characteristic tension – a combination of fullness and cool minerality that is not a matter of course in the Palatinate.

In the glass, a taut, precise Riesling is revealed: lime peel, green apple and a hint of fresh mint on the nose, underpinned by a subtle limestone tone. On the palate, dense fruit pulp, firmly integrated acidity and a long, salty-mineral finish. Not a lush Palatinate Riesling, but a precise one.

Rings

VDP Member Estate

The beginnings of today's VDP winery were laid by the parents of Steffen and Andreas Rings with a mixed agricultural business, which was run as such until well into the 1990s. From the year 2000, Steffen Rings occupied himself with the business and restructured it into a pure winery. From 2008, Andreas Rings also returned from his training at the Wagner-Stempel winery and has been running the winery in Freinsheim in the Palatinate together with his brother Steffen since 2008. On the 30-hectare winery, red and white grapes grow in equal halves. The sites have different soils - gravelly sand, Terra Rossa (red earth) and limestone - on which predominantly Riesling, Pinot Noir and international grape varieties thrive. The individual sites belong to Freinsheim, Kallstein, Ungestein and Leitstadt.
