Syrah
A Syrah that shows what the Palatinate can do when you work with the north of the Rhône in mind – structured, dark fruity, with smoky depth.
The Rings winery in Freinsheim is one of the most reliable producers of red Burgundy varieties and international grape varieties in the Palatinate. Brothers Andreas and Stefan Rings have clearly defined their philosophy: depth over quantity, precision over breadth and ripeness. The fact that they cite Crozes-Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie as benchmarks is evident in this Syrah.
In the glass, it develops aromas of cold charcoal smoke and dark cherry – a classic Syrah signature. These are complemented by fine chocolate and a hint of bacon, adding depth without being heavy. On the palate, it is juicy and clean, with a firm body and ripe fruit. The tannins are velvety and well-integrated. The finish combines nougat chocolate with roasted notes – long and warm.
Recommendation: Braised lamb shoulder with olives, wild boar ragout, or mature Manchego cheese. Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Ready to drink now, but has aging potential until 2028.

The beginnings of today's VDP winery were laid by the parents of Steffen and Andreas Rings with a mixed agricultural business, which was run as such until well into the 1990s. From the year 2000, Steffen Rings occupied himself with the business and restructured it into a pure winery. From 2008, Andreas Rings also returned from his training at the Wagner-Stempel winery and has been running the winery in Freinsheim in the Palatinate together with his brother Steffen since 2008. On the 30-hectare winery, red and white grapes grow in equal halves. The sites have different soils - gravelly sand, Terra Rossa (red earth) and limestone - on which predominantly Riesling, Pinot Noir and international grape varieties thrive. The individual sites belong to Freinsheim, Kallstein, Ungestein and Leitstadt.
