"Sand & Pebbles" quality wine, dry

The "Sand & Kiesel" (Sand & Pebble) dry quality wine is the surprising new offering from the Rings winery in Freinsheim in the Palatinate region – Andreas and Daniel Rings, who have been proving for years that the Palatinate is capable of much more than just Riesling and Pinot Noir. The name is a geological statement: sand and pebbles are the light, permeable soils around Freinsheim, where the 40- to 60-year-old Portugieser vines take root, giving the wine its distinctive character.

The vinification process is consistently purist: 50% of the grapes are fermented as whole clusters, spontaneous fermentation without added yeast, 18 months of aging in neutral wood, late and minimal sulfites added, and bottled unfiltered. A natural wine in the truest sense – certified organic, vegan, and uncompromisingly honest.

In the glass, a medium, vibrant ruby-violet. The nose opens with rich, varietal fruit: dark berries, stewed plums, elderberry, and black pepper, complemented by delicate cardamom and spice notes, as well as a hint of yeast. On the palate, it is mellow and smooth, with a fine structure, lively freshness, and a long, spicy finish – powerful without being heavy.

Served at 14–16 °C with 12.0–12.5% ABV. An ideal accompaniment to lentil soup, charcuterie boards, pasta al pomodoro and strong cheeses – bold, uncomplicated and irresistibly drinkable.

Rings

VDP Member Estate

The beginnings of today's VDP winery were laid by the parents of Steffen and Andreas Rings with a mixed agricultural business, which was run as such until well into the 1990s. From the year 2000, Steffen Rings occupied himself with the business and restructured it into a pure winery. From 2008, Andreas Rings also returned from his training at the Wagner-Stempel winery and has been running the winery in Freinsheim in the Palatinate together with his brother Steffen since 2008. On the 30-hectare winery, red and white grapes grow in equal halves. The sites have different soils - gravelly sand, Terra Rossa (red earth) and limestone - on which predominantly Riesling, Pinot Noir and international grape varieties thrive. The individual sites belong to Freinsheim, Kallstein, Ungestein and Leitstadt.
