Ramón Bilbao Mirto

The Ramón Bilbao Mirto is a single-varietal Tempranillo that perfectly encapsulates the modern side of Spanish winemaking. The traditional Ramón Bilbao winery in Rioja Alta is known for handcrafted wines deeply rooted in their terroir. With this rich red wine, the estate impressively demonstrates the power and elegance that can be found in carefully selected grapes.

On the nose, complex aromas of ripe Morello cherries and raspberries unfold immediately. These dark fruit notes are accompanied by cool balsamic notes, delicate herbs, and hints of dark chocolate and roasted spices. On the palate, a dense, juicy structure presents itself. The velvety tannins and fine acidity support the deep fruit concentration, underscored by elegant roasted aromas and a touch of cocoa. The finish is remarkably long, characterized by elegant spice, mineral accents, and a lingering, crisp freshness.

This powerful Spanish wine demands dishes that complement its structure. Braised leg of lamb with rosemary, a classic beef fillet, or even intensely aged Manchego cheese are ideal companions for an evening meal. Serve the wine at a temperature of 16 to 18 °C and allow it to breathe in a decanter for one to two hours before pouring, so that its complex profile can fully open up.

Ramón Bilbao

Ramón Bilbao is one of the most influential names in Rioja. Founded in 1924 in Haro, the historic heart of Rioja Alta, the winery today represents a style that combines classic craftsmanship with modern cellar technology. Since 1999, Rodolfo Bastida has led the estate as winemaker and managing director, transforming it into one of Spain's most renowned wine brands. Mineral-rich clay soils, influenced by the Atlantic climate, give the Tempranillo grapes the structure and freshness that lend the wines their distinctive character. With 240 hectares of its own vineyards in Rioja, Rueda, and Rías Baixas, Ramón Bilbao's vision extends far beyond the borders of Rioja – and in 2018 became the first winery in Spain to be certified as a "Wineries for Climate Protection."
