A native of Rioja, he took on the role of head winemaker, technical director, and managing director in 1999 – and has led the project ever since. Bastida combines meticulous craftsmanship with innovative technology and the latest oenological insights. Working alongside him are Sara Bañuelos as Rueda director and Rosana Lisa as director of premium and research projects. Rioja Alta: Soils, climate, grape varieties

The vineyards around Haro benefit from a combination unparalleled in Rioja: mineral-rich clay soils and an Atlantic-influenced climate that provides freshness and structure. Tempranillo forms the backbone of the red blends; Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo also grow in select parcels. Cellar technology is geared towards precision: temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, cooled and heated wooden fermenters, and a barrel park of more than 16,000 casks , which are used for a maximum of five years. Before their first use, the casks are lightly toasted – the result is subtle vanilla notes that frame the fruit profile of the wines without overpowering it.

Ramón Bilbao doesn't just think in terms of one appellation. His 240 hectares of vineyards are spread across Rioja, Rueda, and Rías Baixas. Since 2016, the estate has included Finca Las Amedias in Rueda : 60 hectares at an altitude of 770 meters, planted with Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc – the foundation for fresh, aromatic white wines that go beyond the classic Rioja style. Rare varieties such as Maturana Blanca and Tempranillo Blanco round out the grape portfolio.

Prestige projects: Mirto and Lalomba

Mirto , the flagship wine, is made exclusively from Tempranillo vines over 90 years old, sourced from vineyards in eight villages surrounding Haro.
