Ramon Bilbao Rioja Reserva

A classic Rioja Reserva that demonstrates why this category has been considered the benchmark for approachable yet characterful Spanish red wines for decades.

Ramón Bilbao is one of the most renowned names in Rioja Alta. The winery was founded in 1924 in Haro, the capital of Rioja Alta, just steps away from the famous Estación de Vinos (wine station). Today, Ramón Bilbao vinifies grapes from various Rioja vineyards, with a clear focus on a fruit-forward style with a solid structure.

The Reserva matures for at least 12 months in American oak barrels, followed by further bottle aging—the minimum requirement for the Reserva classification in the DOCa Rioja. In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The nose offers aromas of blackberry, ripe plum, and a hint of coconut, typical of American oak. On the palate, it features rounded tannins, moderate acidity that supports the body, and a pleasantly long finish with notes of vanilla and dried fruit.

Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Drinking window: now until 2027. Pairs well with leg of lamb with herbs , aged Manchego cheese or a plate of Iberian cold cuts — classic accompaniments of Spanish dining culture.

Ramón Bilbao

Ramón Bilbao is one of the most influential names in Rioja. Founded in 1924 in Haro, the historic heart of Rioja Alta, the winery today represents a style that combines classic craftsmanship with modern cellar technology. Since 1999, Rodolfo Bastida has led the estate as winemaker and managing director, transforming it into one of Spain's most renowned wine brands. Mineral-rich clay soils, influenced by the Atlantic climate, give the Tempranillo grapes the structure and freshness that lend the wines their distinctive character. With 240 hectares of its own vineyards in Rioja, Rueda, and Rías Baixas, Ramón Bilbao's vision extends far beyond the borders of Rioja – and in 2018 became the first winery in Spain to be certified as a "Wineries for Climate Protection."
