The Gran Reserva Rioja from Ramon Bilbao shines clearly in an intense garnet red with light brick-red tones. From the first moment, balsamic notes of wood and chocolate unfold on the nose, as well as subtle coconut in the background, surrounded by the aroma of ripe red berries.
In the mouth, it is full with a slightly astringent and lively acidity. Here, too, one finds notes of cocoa and toasted wood. The lingering finish due to the complexity is hard to describe: tobacco and cedar wood, spices, licorice, leather.
The Gran Reserva from Ramon Bilbao continues its international recognition in the wine industry in 2015. With four gold medals in the most renowned competitions, it is once again a top result; Vinoscout congratulates on this achievement!

How does the Gran Reserva 2018 taste?
Full and complex: cocoa and toasted wood on the attack, lively acidity, a fine astringent grip. The finale lingers long over tobacco, cedar wood, licorice, and leather – a classic, powerful Rioja from the barrique.
What does the wine pair best with?
It plays out its tannin structure with hearty food like lamb, game, or grilled dishes. It also goes very well with goose, braised dishes, veal, Iberico pork, or a mature Manchego, as well as with hearty tapas.
At what temperature should one serve it?
18°C is ideal – slightly cooler than pure room temperature. This brings out the fruit without emphasizing the alcohol (14% vol) and allows the roasted aromas from the barrique aging to emerge clearly.
Is the wine dry?
Yes, classically vinified dry, with palpable, lively acidity and a slightly astringent tannin structure – typical for a Gran Reserva made from Tempranillo.
How long does the bottle keep after opening?
Best to drink within two to three days, sealed and stored in a cool place. The aromas of tobacco and cedar wood lose some intensity over time after opening.
How does one store the bottle before opening?
Lying down, dark and at a constant cellar temperature around 12–14°C – as is usual for any barrique-aged red wine from the Rioja. Strong temperature fluctuations and light should be avoided.

Ramón Bilbao is one of the defining names of Rioja – founded in 1924 in Haro, the historic heart of Rioja Alta, the winery today stands for a style that combines classic craftsmanship with modern cellar technology. Since 1999, Rodolfo Bastida has led the house as oenologist and managing director and has shaped it into one of the most well-known Spanish wine brands.
Mineral clay soils under the influence of an Atlantic climate give the Tempranillo vines the structure and freshness that give the wines their unmistakable profile.
With 240 hectares of its own vineyards in Rioja, Rueda, and Rías Baixas, Ramón Bilbao has long been thinking beyond the borders of Rioja – and in 2018, it became the first winery in Spain to be awarded the "Wineries for Climate Protection" certification.
