Pinot Noir Ried Stangl HP

Pinot Noir Ried Stangl HP
Cool climate, loess soil, two years in new barrique — the Stangl HP shows what Austrian Pinot Noir can do when the young generation takes the reins.
The Johann Topf winery is located in the Kamptal, one of the best red wine addresses in Lower Austria. The Ried Stangl vineyard, with its loess-containing subsoil, provides a fine texture and cool aromatics — ideal conditions for Pinot Noir that prioritizes finesse over power. The addition "HP" stands for the ambitious project of the next generation, who consistently age the Pinot in new French barriques.
In the glass, ripe sour cherry and raspberry appear, underpinned by cedarwood and a hint of vanilla from the barrel aging. The tannins are silky and well-integrated, the acidity fresh without sharpness — the finish remains long with a hint of dark spices. Despite the wood presence, the fruit remains present and clear.
Best served at 16–17 °C. Pairs with duck breast with cherry sauce, venison medallions, or an aged mountain cheese. Those who bring some patience will be rewarded.
