Johann Topf Grüner Veltliner Ried Wechselberg
The Wechselberg vineyard is located in Strass im Straßertal — one of the best addresses in the Kamptal region. The south-facing slope, situated on volcanic slate, loess, and clay soils, gives the Grüner Veltliner its characteristic tension between depth and freshness.
Johann Topf ages his Wechselberg in wooden barrels – this is evident in the mouthfeel: robust, dense, with a texture that surpasses that of a simple estate wine. The nose offers green apple and grapefruit, complemented by ripe pineapple and a delicate hint of almond. The acidity is present but integrated, and the minerality leaves a long, saline finish.
Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Pairs well with Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad, grilled pike-perch, or a mature mountain cheese. If opening the wine now, decanting is recommended—an hour of aeration will do it good.
