Zweigelt
A Zweigelt that requires no patience: fruity and spicy, with a soft texture and good accessibility even shortly after bottling.
Johann Topf manages his vineyard in the Weinviertel – one of Austria's most productive red wine regions, known for the Zweigelt grape as its flagship variety. Zweigelt is an Austrian cross between Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent and, in the right hands, produces juicy cherry fruit with a spicy bite.
The nose is dominated by ripe cherry, complemented by notes of roasted coffee beans. On the palate, it reveals a soft fullness: the fruit is prominent, while the tannins remain gentle. The winemaking process explains the balance – fermentation at a controlled 18°C in closed tanks, followed by three months in large wooden barrels. This gives the wine a certain roundness without overwhelming it with oak aromas. The finish is medium-long and pleasantly fruity.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with roast beef with onions, grilled duck breast, or a hearty lentil stew. Also a reliable choice as an uncomplicated accompaniment to pizza or flavorful pasta dishes. Best enjoyed now until 2027.
