Zweigelt

Zweigelt
A Zweigelt that requires no patience: fruity and spicy, with a soft texture and good accessibility shortly after bottling.
Johann Topf manages his winery in the Weinviertel – one of Austria's most productive red wine regions, known for the Zweigelt grape as its lead variety. Zweigelt is an Austrian cross between Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent and, in good hands, brings juicy cherry fruit with a spicy bite.
Ripe cherry dominates the nose, complemented by notes of roasted coffee beans. The palate shows soft fullness: the fruit carries, the tannins remain mild. The aging process explains the balance – fermentation at a controlled 18 °C in closed tanks, then three months in large wooden barrels. This gives the wine some roundness without drowning it in wood aromas. Medium-long finish, pleasantly fruity.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs with onion roast beef, grilled duck breast, or a hearty lentil stew. Also a safe choice as an uncomplicated companion to pizza or spicy pasta dishes.
