Mouton Cadet Reserve Pessac-Leognan 0.75L

Pessac-Léognan is one of the most demanding appellations of Bordeaux — gravelly soils that store heat and give wines an unmistakable mineral imprint. Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the house behind Mouton Cadet, brings grapes from controlled sites of the appellation into the bottle with this reserve line: not a mass-produced product, but a clearly positioned Bordeaux with regional aspirations.

A lively ruby red shows in the glass. The Merlot base brings ripe blackberry and plum, underpinned by a subtle spice and the mineral notes typical of Pessac-Léognan, which are reminiscent of fine gravel. The tannins are polished, the body medium-weight, the finish clean and pleasantly dry.

Served at 16–17 °C, it pairs well with duck breast with cherries, rabbit in mustard sauce, or a hearty mushroom risotto. It also cuts a fine figure with spicy hard cheese.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild

Baron Philippe de Rothschild – a name that stands for great wines worldwide. Founded in 1853 with the purchase of Château Brane-Mouton, the winery was upgraded to the exclusive rank of "Premiers Crus" in 1973 – an honor shared by only five wineries in France.

Today, the family business has six locations, the majority in France, plus California and Chile. A total of 1,200 hectares of vineyards on which Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and others grow.

At the most famous location, Mouton Cadet, 20 million bottles are produced annually. Each variety is tested at least ten times – no wonder the wines are regularly rated with over 95 Parker points.
