Mouton Cadet Réserve Saint-Estèphe 0.75L

Saint-Estèphe is the northernmost of the great Médoc appellations — known for wines with more structure and depth than their southern neighbors. The Mouton Cadet Réserve brings exactly that to the bottle: a Merlot-based red wine that combines the typical weight of the appellation with accessible fruit.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild launched Mouton Cadet in the 1930s as the first Bordeaux brand wine concept ever. The Réserve line stands out from the classic Mouton Cadet: grapes from selected sites of the respective appellation, stricter selection. Saint-Estèphe brings its characteristic clay — mineral, with noticeable tannin structure.

In the glass, the wine shows dark berry fruit — blackberry and blackcurrant — with a hint of cedar wood and subtle spice in the background. The tannins are present but integrated; the acid structure gives the wine backbone without sharpness. The finish is medium-long with a slightly earthy, mineral aftertaste.

Best served at 16–18 °C. Pairs with game poultry, leg of lamb with herbs, or strong braised dishes like Boeuf bourguignon. Decanting it an hour before drinking brings out the fruit better.
