A classic Bordeaux style from the Rothschild house — approachable, structured and with the typical character of the Gironde in the glass.
Baron Philippe de Rothschild is one of the most renowned wineries in the Médoc and has been responsible for both the iconic Pauillac wines and more approachable everyday cuvées for decades. This Bordeaux Rouge represents the estate's classic craftsmanship: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the Bordeaux appellation, vinified according to the time-honored Méthode Bordelaise.
The nose offers dark berry fruits—plum and blackberry—underpinned by forest floor and a subtle spiciness. On the palate, it is round and completely dry, with firm tannins that are well integrated and leave no harsh finish. A discreet minerality adds freshness.
- Food: Entrecôte, lamb loin with herb crust, mature cheddar or a braised dish on cool evenings

How does the Rothschild Bordeaux Rouge taste?
Completely dry, with aromas of plum and blackberry, a hint of forest floor, and fine spice. The tannins are bold but well-integrated — no rough finish, but a subtle minerality that brings freshness.
What does this Bordeaux go best with?
Classically with entrecôte, lamb loin with a herb crust, or a braised dish. It also works well with aged cheddar. Anyone drinking it solo is well served on a cool evening.
At what temperature do I serve it?
16–18 °C — i.e., cooler than room temperature. Recommended: open the bottle about 30 minutes before pouring so that the aromas can unfold.
Is this a heavy, tannin-rich red wine or rather accessible?
It has structure and bold tannins, but is not a heavy blockbuster. The cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot makes it rounder and more accessible than many classic Médoc growths — everyday-suitable without compromises in character.
How do I best store the bottle?
Store lying down at a constant 12–16 °C, in the dark and free from vibrations — this applies to all red wines with natural corks. Keep an opened bottle with a wine stopper in the fridge and drink within two to three days.
The Domaine
Baron Philippe de Rothschild – a name that stands for great wines worldwide. Founded in 1853 with the purchase of Château Brane-Mouton, the winery was upgraded to the exclusive rank of "Premiers Crus" in 1973 – an honor shared by only five wineries in France.
Today, the family business has six locations, the majority in France, plus California and Chile. A total of 1,200 hectares of vineyards on which Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and others grow.
At the most famous location, Mouton Cadet, 20 million bottles are produced annually. Each variety is tested at least ten times – no wonder the wines are regularly rated with over 95 Parker points.
