Montiano Lazio IGP Magnum

Montiano is considered a prime example of what Merlot can achieve in Lazio – concentrated, warm, with a vinification that creates depth rather than heaviness.

The Cotarella family from Montecchio in Umbria, right on the border with Lazio, has been one of the most influential names in Central Italy for decades. Riccardo Cotarella – one of Italy's most influential oenologists – developed Montiano as the family's flagship project: a single-varietal Merlot from Lazio that demonstrates the region's capabilities far beyond Frascati. Volcanic soils, hot summers, and cool nights provide the foundation for this concentrated wine.

In the glass: dark ruby red with a violet rim. On the nose, blackberry jam, black cherry, and a distinct hint of vanilla and cedar – signs of barrel aging. On the palate, dense and full, the tannins are ripe and velvety, the acidity well integrated. The finish lingers with clove and dark chocolate.

The magnum bottle matures more slowly than the standard bottle – ideal if you plan to cellar the wine for another 3–5 years. Drinking window: 2025–2032. Serving temperature: 17–18 °C.

  • With Brasato al Barolo or braised leg of lamb
  • Ripe Pecorino Romano or Parmigiano Reggiano
  • Table wine for special occasions where a large bottle is the norm.
