Lungarotti Montefalco Rosso DOC

Sagrantino meets Sangiovese – the Montefalco Rosso DOC from Lungarotti shows what Umbria has to offer beyond its Tuscan neighbors: structure, depth and an earthiness that is typical of the hills around Montefalco.

Lungarotti is among the pioneers of Umbrian winemaking. Since the 1960s, the family has been shaping the region's DOC and DOCG landscape and today cultivates over 250 hectares between Torgiano and Montefalco. The Montefalco Rosso matures for 12 months in French oak barrels , followed by 6 months of bottle aging – enough time to soften the robust tannins of the Sagrantino component.

In the glass, dark ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, blackberry, plum, and cocoa, with a hint of cinnamon and tobacco. Medium-bodied on the palate, with soft tannins, lively acidity, and a finish that lingers with spicy notes of black pepper and dark chocolate. James Suckling: 91 points , Veronelli: 3 stars (2013).

Lungarotti

Lungarotti – your gateway to the soul of Umbria. In the 1960s, Giorgio Lungarotti revolutionized the Umbrian wine world, making Torgiano the region's first quality appellation. Today, his daughters Chiara and Teresa carry on the legacy with passion and vision. What makes Lungarotti so special? Wine and culture are inextricably linked here: a wine museum, a luxury hotel, and sustainable projects. On over 300 hectares, they produce wines that reflect the terroir of Umbria. The legendary Rubesco Vigna Monticchio – a single-varietal Sangiovese. With San Giorgio, they created the first "Superumbrian" in 1977. And they were the first winery in Umbria to receive the VIVA sustainability certification. Umbria, as it tastes.
